Results of The Tug of War on 23rd June 2012 at
Ratley Village Fete

The sun came out as four teams took the field for the Tug of War competition.  The teams were evenly matched and at times it seemed like it would be a stalemate with the centre of the rope hardly moving as teams gave it their all.

After a hard fought contest Radway and Ratley won their heats to make it through to the final.   The third place play off between Kineton and the 'The Old Bill' (a team from a mix of different villages) went to one all before The Old Bill took the final pull to win the Bronze.

The first pull was another long one, but it finally went to Ratley.  Then Radway fought back with a quick win in the second pull to level the score.  Once again it all came down to the final pull again.  With a crowd urging them on the Ratley team won the final pull to take the Edgehill Gold and the prize of a barrel of cider (which they promptly shared with Radway).

Final results:

Gold Medal
Ratley

Silver Medal
Radway

Bronze Medal
The Old Bill

Well done to all the teams that took part and a big thank you to Ken Marples for organising the tug of war and putting up the prize of the cider.  Thanks also to the Ratley Fete for hosting the event

Results of the Over 35's football tournament on Sunday 17th June 2012 at Kineton sports and Social Club

Never mind Euro 2012, all the drama was there on the pitches of Kineton Sports and Social club at the Edgehill Games Over 35’s football tournament.  Fifteen teams battled it out on the field to see who would win Edgehill Gold.

Two leagues were played with the top two teams from each league going into the semi-finals. After the leagues Warmington Arthritic, Edgehill Cosmos, Daventry Villa Vets and Southam were through to the semis, but over 4 hours of gruelling football was not without its casualties and Warmington Arthritic lived up to their name and had to retire due to injury decimating their squad.  Kineton and Southam were knocked out in the semi-finals setting up a great final match between Daventry Villa Vets and Edgehill Cosmos.
Daventry Villa Vets

In the end after a hard fought final:

Edgehill Gold (and the football trophy) went to
Daventry Villa Vets .

Silver went to
Edgehill Cosmos

Edgehill Cosmos
and Bronze went to
Kineton

Thank you to Mel Cod and Russell Cudworth for organising and running the tournament, to all the refs for their hard work and to all those that helped with the refreshments.  Thanks also to Kineton Sports and Social for hosting the event.

Results of the Touch Rugby Tournament on 16th June 2012 at Kineton High School

Six teams from across Warwickshire battled it out in a highly competitive series of games at Kineton High School this afternoon.  Each team payed the others in a series of close fought matches to see who would end up top of the table and walk away with Edgehill Gold.

It was a close match with the lower medals being decided on points difference, but the clear winners from Stratford were the the Panthers of 'S'.

The teams from Radway and Ratley played well, but finished up 5th and 6th respectively.  Kineton (Peter Lane, Chris Rowles, Steve Landrey, Sean Geary, Simon Heaton, Kirsty Lindsey, Lorna Johnson, Dave Hutchings and Andy Smith) were just edged into 4th place, but the wining teams were:

    Gold Medalists:
The Panthers of 'S' (Stratford) - (Jay Kennedy, Glen Fergusson, Cal Cook, Jo Cook, Alex Roe, Geoff Dyson, Rooney)

    Silver Medalists:
Ilmington - (Mark Ashworth, Lisa Lane, Tom Jervis, Richard Aitcheson, Tom Ashworth, Paul Hoff)

    Bronze Medalists:
The 'S' Panthers (Stratford) - (Dom Skinner, Dave Pearson, Ross Hutchingson, Lily Lippard, Lizzie Sloves, Rob Oliver, Seb le Feurve Harrison)

Well done to everyone that took part and a big thank you to Paul Scanlon and Chris Hargreaves of the regional RFU development team for coming along to run the day.  A huge thank you also goes to Kineton High School and to Colin Naismith and Jo Rolls of Get Me Into for hosting the event.

The results of the Senior Badminton Tournament on 16th June 2012 at Kineton High School

One of the great benefits we have realised with a badminton tournament is that it doesn't matter what the weather is like outside, you can still play!  So whilst the wind rattled the roof panels on the sports hall 10 adults battled it out to see who would emerge as the Edgehill Games Badminton Champions.

Each couple played all the others in a league and there were some close matches and some that were not so close, but it was played in a sporting atmosphere.  In the end Barry Jackson and Katy Hartless showed that they were the strongest players by holding up the rest of the results table above them (yes unfortunately they came last).  Above them were Andrew Rose and Helen Smith in 4th place; just knocked out of the medals after a very close game with Andrew Jeffrey and Linda Clark.

    The final results were:

    Gold Medalists
Jerry Hughes and Lynne Blakemore (Wellesbourne)

    Silver Medalists
Julie Bailey and Ben Zuliani (Fenny Compton)

    Bronze Medalists
Andrew Jeffrey and Linda Clark (Shotteswell)

Well done to everyone that took part and thank you to Jerry Hughes and the team for organising the event.  A big thank you also to Kineton High School and to Colin Naismith and Jo Rolls of Get Me Into for hosting us.

Results of the Junior Badminton Tournament on 16th June 2012 at Kineton High School

Junior players from villages in South Warwickshire faced each other in a league to see who would win the coveted title of Edgehill Games champions.

This event was the first to feature a team from Fenny Compton and in the end it was this brother and sister team that took the Gold.

    Gold Medalists:
Jack Zuliani and Gabby Zuliani (Fenny Compton)

    Silver Medalists:
Luke Curtlin and Becky Smith (Kineton)

    Bronze Medalists:
Matthew Jolly and Ollie Bamber (Kineton)

Well done to everyone who took part and thank you to Jerry Hughes for organising the event.  Thank you also to Kineton High School and Get Me Into for hosting it.

Results of the Tennis Tournament on Saturday 16th June 2012 at Kineton High School

Eight intrepid, dedicated and hardy tennis players turned out to compete for the title of Edgehill Games Tennis Champions at Kineton High School this afternoon.  In weather conditions that would have sent Andy Murray, Rafael Nadal, or Maria Sharapova running for the dressing room these committed players battled on.

Although in the end they didn't make the medals positions John Wright and his daughter Lucy deserve a special mention as they finished playing in the hockey tournament and then ran down to take part in the tennis!

The matches, which were the best of 5 games, were played in wind that was gusting so strongly that the ball would move by more than a foot from it's initial trajectory on a strong shot and by far more on a lobbed ball.  Despite the wind and sometimes squally conditions the players were determined to finish the matches.

Each team played all the others in a league and there was a decisive match between Kineton and Shotteswell early on in the tournament.  Kineton were initially 4-2 up, but Shotteswell fought back to make it 4-4.  Then in the final game Shotteswell were ahead with 2 match points at 40-15, but they failed to capitalise on them and Kineton fought back to make it deuce.  In the end, after some sterling play by both pairs Shotteswell prevailed and took the final game to win the match 5-4.

    The final results were:

Gold Medalists (unbeaten in the competition)
    Jim and Anne Omer (Shotteswell)

    Silver Medalists
David and Clare Rankin (Radway) - not in the picture as they had to leave before the end, but Puffin (far right) received their medals on behalf of Radway

    Bronze Medalists
Ian Smith and Mark Stinger (Kineton) - 2 points were deducted from this pair as a handicap for not being 'mixed'

Jim and Anne's victory is all the more remarkable when you realise that their combined age is 140 and that Anne has two replacement knees!

Well done to everyone for battling on in the poor weather conditions and thank you to Ian Smith for organising the competition.  A big thank you also goes to Kineton High School and Get Me Into for hosting the event.

Results of the Hockey Tournament on 16th June 2012 at Kineton High School

Two teams met on the all weather pitch at Kineton High School to see which would be crowned as the Edgehill Games Champion.  One team was formed with members from Kineton and Radway (representing Kineway or Radton??) and the other had travelled from the far north (all the way from St Paul's Leamington Priors) drawn by the lure of Edgehill Gold.

The match was decided by playing three games and it was a close fought contest.  In the first game Kineway (or Radton) took the lead early on and held on to it to go one up in the match.  However, in the second game St Paul's fought back to make it one game all.

It all came down to the final match.  Both teams worked hard with bloodied knees and pulled hamstrings by the end of the match, and in the end St Paul's prevailed.

    Gold Medalists:
    St Paul's Leamington Priors

    Silver Medalists:
    Radton (or Kineway)

Well done to everyone that took part and thank you to Peter Wallis for helping with the refereeing.  A big thank you also to Andrew Jeffrey for organizing the event and to Kineton High School and to Colin Naismith and Jo Rolls of Get Me Into for hosting it.

Results of the Tag Rugby Tournament on Saturday 16th June 2012 at Kineton High School

We were treated to a great and sporting display of Tag Rugby on Saturday morning. Three local teams battled it out for the medals and it was a close competition. A small, but dedicated band of supporters also deserve a mention for braving the British Summer weather and seeing the match through despite the strong winds and rain.

In the end, after some great play by all sides the final results were:

    Gold Medalists
    Radway

    Silver Medalists
    Kineton

    Bronze Medalists
    Ratley

Thank you to everyone who played with such a good spirit and to all those brave people who stood on the touchline in weather conditions that were more like February than June.

A huge thank you also to Sue Backhouse and Paul Scanlon for organizing the event and to Kineton High School and to Colin Naismith and Jo Rolls of 'Get Me Into' for hosting it.

The Results of the Toddler Treasure Hunt and Drawing Competition on 10th June 2012 at St Peter's Radway

Great fun was had by all at the Toddler treasure hunt and all who took part got a Shiny Bronze medal - although some of them thought that the vicar presenting the medals looked a little scary and didn't want them :-).

The standard of the drawing was excellent and it was very difficult to judge between the entries, but in the end:

The Gold Medal position went to Charlotte Cooper of Radway

The Silver went to Eva Leighs of Radway

The Bronze was a tie between Katherine Cooper and Nancy Cameron of Radway

Thank you to everyone who came along and joined in the fun and to Puffin Pocock for organizing the event.
