Results of the Junior Football Tournament and Penalty Shoot-out on Sunday 27th May 2012

On Sunday afternoon we were treated to a fantastic display of soccer skills by the U8s and U10s from Kineton & Tysoe.  For such young players they showed a great understanding of the game, keeping their shape as a team and playing good football.

There was a great team spirit on both sides and they played hard right to the whistle despite the heat of the blazing sun (which certainly added to the enjoyment as of the spectators... usually when I'm on the touchline it is in several layers and a waterproof, so it was a welcome change).

Each age group played each other twice with the winner being decided by the aggregate score from the matches.  After the matches there was a penalty shoot out competition for Edgehill Games medals followed by a number of other football games (Closest to the Target, Dribble and Score, Through the Hoops and Footbowl) where the players could win some trophies.

The Results of the Raft Race on Saturday 26th May on Compton Pools, Park Farm

The sun shone down on a great family day at Compton Pools.  Thank you to Lizzie and Richard Carris for giving us the use of their land and lake and for providing the safety boat!  A big thank you also to Sgt Dom Dudley and the team from DM Kineton that helped to organize the day, to the people of Combroke that provided and served the teas/coffees and cake, to Alan Scorer, Alana Crawley and others who cooked some excellent sausage and bacon on the barbecue and to Nick and Alex Gunn for sorting out the PA system.

Whilst the crowds massed on the bank the watch we had five intrepid teams that ventured out onto the lake and battled it out for the glory of Edgehill Gold.

• The Fighting Close Pirates - Kineton (Lynda Parnell, Elliot Baker, Rob Fox, Chris Mills, Jonathan Wilkes, Edward Mills)

There were 2 stages to the event; a league table where each of the teams raced each other in a head to head battle for points, and a final all out race with all rafts on the lake racing against each other.

All teams entered into the spirit of the event and there were a real mix in approaches to design.  It was the design of the rafts that seemed to make the difference in the races.  The Army Girls had some problems with their raft, but they showed great spirit and determination and although they finished last in the end, they got one of the loudest cheers of the day for their commitment and enthusiasm.

The Rafty Blighters from Shotteswell had an ingenious raft design with using ladders and gallon sized plastic containers which looked to be a winner, but the Fighting Close Pirates from Kineton, just had the edge on them and in a thrilling final race came home first to take the Gold Medal.  The Ratley Rats again had an clever raft design that allowed assembly on site, but they were just knocked out of the medal positions by the Army Lads team who rowed hard to take the Bronze.

Results of the Modern Pub Pentathlon on Saturday 19th May at Kineton Sports and Social Club

A huge thank you to Kineton Sports and Social for hosting the Modern Pub Pentathlon on May 19^th.  It proved to be a very popular event with sixteen teams battling it out to see who would emerge as the champion.

Cheese rolling proved to be a deciding factor in the final positions with some teams scoring highly and others barely scraping above zero.  Concerns were raised as to whether the cheeses ought to have been stored in a fridge in order to maintain their optimum rolling shape. Unfortunately, however, we could not do any scientific testing to see if the cheeses had lost their shape as they were eaten by the last team to play J

There was some confusion in the rules about some of the events and in particular on the skittles where the rules were unclear and open to interpretation (apologies for that).  This meant that people’s scores varied widely on that event from team to team.  In the spirit of the games, following a post event discussion, the organising committee have decided that on top of those that won on the evening we would also recognise individuals that played by an interpretation of the rules that meant their score would be lower.  However if that means an additional medal for this event on the medals table for a village, then it would not be added in (I hope that makes sense J).  These extra medals will be awarded at either the over 35’s football on the 17^th June, the teddy bear parachuting and Wii Mario Kart challenge on the 24^th June, or at the Countryside Triathlon as part of Shotteswell village fete.

Results of the Kwik Cricket tournament on Friday 18th May at Kineton Sports and Social Club

Due to the Radway pitch being waterlogged we had a last minute change of venue. Thanks to Paul and Mitch from Kineton Cricket Club for stepping in and organising a great event.


Braving the cold and wet weather 12 pairs turned out for the Adult and Child Pairs Kwik Cricket. In weather and poor lighting conditions that would have sent international test sides running for the pavillion, this intrepid group played on. In the end Kineton teams took all three medal positions.

Results of the Battle of the Clans at The Edge Battlefield live on Saturday 12th May

The Edge Battlefield Live was the scene of great village rivalry when the villages shot it out in the battle of the clans.

Results of Indoor rowing on Friday 11th May at Kineton High School

Thanks to Colin Naismith and Jo Rolls of Get-Me-Into for organizing a great event.  
The indivitual events were over 3 minutes for the ladies and 4 minutes for the men with the winners being decided by the furthest distance rowed.  The team event invloved a lot of rower changeovers either at set times or on set distances and coordination between team members was key to getting a good time.
The competition was extremely close with the final team race finishing in a tie.




In the women's individual event:

• Gold was won by Tracey Lynch form Sydenham Parish in Leamington, 

• Silver by Sarah Jackson from Kineton and 

• Bronze by Hilary Farley-Wood from Finham Parish in Coventry. 

In the Men's individual event:

• Gold was won by Barry Jackson from Kineton, 

• Silver by John Adams from Kineton and 

• Bronze by Mike Palmer from Kineton. 

Team Gold, Silver and Bronze all went to Kineton teams.
